For the past five years, Joe has also taught piano and drum lessons, upon request, for students aged 5-14 years old. These are instruments which I have been playing and enjoying since I was a kid, and it gives me great joy to be able to share them with others.

Here’s a summary of what I can offer in the way of piano lessons:

My primary goal in teaching piano is to develop and nurture the joy of music in a student and by doing this, students will also gain a basic understanding of music theory and self-expression, by means of the piano. If it’s not fun or enjoyable or directed towards the student’s interests, it is my belief that the student will not progress as much towards realizing their full potential.
The methodology is gathered from a number of different sources, including Alfred Music Course, John Williams Music Course, and popular music books. Your child is assessed for her abilities and interests in order to find the appropriate materials for her to play. Lessons are interactive and include learning proper finger placement for notes, appropriate tempos and time signatures, how to read sheet music, but also the joys of improvisation and song composition.

My expectation is that students will come prepared for each lesson, having played their homework assignments during the previous week at home. They should also be prepared to have fun!

I schedule 1 practice per week or every second week, according to the availability of both parties.
I am not affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music, however, and do not offer any formal training for that program or its examinations.

The cost for a 30 minute lesson will range from $20-26, according to any travel that is required, should the lesson take place at the student’s house.

The location of the lessons is TBD, as it will depend on what is decided between the student’s family and me.
